This past weekend, Rudy Grant and David Siders (along with a few other staff members from Experience and Creative Design) drove down to Mystic, Connecticut for the North East Floral Expo! This year’s theme was called “Flora Couture” – Where Floral and Fashion Collide!
Rudy and David presented a demonstration on Sunday called “Mazel Tov!” It followed the life of Sarah, a young Jewish girl, through her monumental chapters in her life, such as her Bat Mitzvah and wedding. Grant and Siders created floral arrangements for each event starting with her birth.
The Jewish tradition of planting a tree at birth started in ancient Israel. A cedar was planted for a boy and a cypress for a girl. As the children grew, they cared for their trees and when married, the Chuppa, or canopy, was made of the branches from their tree. They believed in a strong bond between birth and marriage.
Bat Mitzvahs, for girls and Bar Mitzvahs, for boys, are also a traditional ceremony marking adulthood. Once a girl turns 12, she is recognized by Jewish Tradition to have the same rights as an adult. Following the ceremonial Bat Mitzvah, a tradition of a ceremony or party to celebrate occurs. Rudy and David created an arrangement for a Bat Mitzvah from a tennis racket. How creative!
At the end of the demonstration, Rudy and David revealed a life size Chuppa they had designed along with an aisle runner and petals. The idea was to show a modern day Chuppa, instead of a more traditional one, so brides can see what options they have. What a way to end the show!
The proceeds from tickets purchased to this years NEFE 2013, went to the Pediatric Oncology Program at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. The turn out was great this year and the responses were amazing! Many people were saying our own Rudy Grant and David Siders’ demonstration was second to the main Flora Couture. What an honor to have so many people appreciate all of the hard work and time put into this demonstration! Everyone’s hard work paid off!
Check out the wedding from this past weekend that Experience and Creative Design did. The ceremony was at St. Josephs Church in Schenectady and the reception was at the Stockade Inn. The color was a Tiffany Blue. Simple large martini glasses with silk flower orbs were used as the centerpieces. All of the bouquets and boutonnieres were also created by the staff at Experience and Creative Design.
This past weekend, the staff at Experience and Creative Design worked hard to create a beautiful backdrop to the wedding held at the Calvery Tabernacle Church in Schenectady. The bridesmaid’s and bride’s bouquets were also designed and made by David Siders, co-owner of Experience and Creative Design. Another job well done!
Everyone loves fall with the deep russet colors of brown, burgundy, spice and gold. Add in the beautiful vibrant oranges and reds of the changing leaves and you have yourself a great color pallet for a wedding. Of course an outdoor fall wedding is a dream of a lot of brides but with the weather, never knowing if it is going to be an Indian Summer or snowing…do you take the chance? Try bringing the outdoors in and take away the stress of weather on your special day.
As Experience and Creative Design has done, take small trees with the leaves still on them and surround a post in the venue. Create ambiance by hanging votives from the branches. The staff here has created small, bright centerpieces and added in red apples and green grapes for some interest. Stop by Experience and Creative Design to speak to Rudy Grant and David Siders, our wedding designers, to start planning your fall wedding today!
This past weekend, the staff at Experience and Creative Design created a beautiful, outdoor wedding at the Mountain Top Inn and Resort in Chittenden, Vermont.

This years Columbia Memorial Hospital Ball was in honor of Jane Ehrlich, the hospital’s President and CEO. Jane has worked at Columbia Meomorial Hospital for 18 years and in those years, she has “tranformed a sleepy county hospital into a state-of-the-art facility,” according to Marlene Brody (host of the Memorial Ball).
Experience and Creative Design constructed and designed the ball this year with an “Art Deco” theme. Art Deco is defined as the use of symmetrical and geometric shapes, bold colors and plastic and glass. The team here at Experience had been working on the designs for weeks prior to the event. They created huge pillars topped with white feathers and lit them from below to create a dramatic effect. The design team did an amazing job and the ball was a successful event!
A sneak peek at the preparation of a wedding this past weekend at Key Hall. Final photos to come.

“A Night Under the Stars” was the theme for the 2011 Columbia Memorial Hospital Ball. For the past two years, Experience and Creative Design has transformed this large, open-aired building into a beautiful backdrop to this wonderful cause. This coming June, the hospital will have its 24th annual Hospital Ball. The proceeds help to fund the hospital with renovations, expansions and medical equipment used to better their patients well being.
